It includes options made from recycled plastic bottles and wood pulp, catering to all tastes and needs.
Recycled PET Ribbons
Our eco-friendly ribbon range includes options made from recycled plastic bottles. These bottles are salvaged from waste and transformed through processes that drastically reduce environmental impact, eliminating the creation of virgin yarn and need for raw materials. Also helping to stop plastic bottles from ending up in landfills.
What makes this ribbon so eco-friendly:
Tencel Ribbons
We offer Tencel ribbons, which has a woven edge and matt finish. Tencel is made from the wood pulp of Spruce and Eucalyptus trees. Produced through a sustainable, closed-loop process, resulting in the Tencel fibres, these fibres are certified as biodegradable (soil, water and marine) and compostable (home and industrial). The fibres are spun to create a yarn which is then woven to create the finished product.
What makes this ribbon so eco-friendly:
The methodology above is called the Lyocell process and Tencel™ is a brand name. Lenzing recovers and reuses more than 99% of the organic solvent, resulting in a 100% bio based yarn. Plus, they recycle and reuse their water from the process, creating an almost 100% closed loop system.
Wood Pulp Ribbons
We also offer acetate yarn ribbon which is made from Pine and Eucalyptus trees that are FSC and/or PEFC certified, which has a slit edge and slight shine to the finish.
The process:
Wood chips are treated with acetic acid (the main ingredient in vinegar), to produce a solution and release cellulose (the key component of plant cell walls). This cellulose is then dissolved in acetone (similar to nail varnish remover), turning it into a thick liquid. The process includes recycling the acetone and maintaining a closed-loop system.
This thick liquid is passed through a filtration system (to remove any impurities) before being extruded to make filament, which in turn produces a 59% bio-based yarn.
